Fri., June 27 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm: Music in the Park ft. Soul School!
Growing up with parents and siblings whose disabilities led to morbid obesity, Sean Sewell was determined to make healthy living THE cornerstone of his existence. The day after his brother died of a heart attack at age 21, he enrolled in the National Personal Trainer Institute where he spent a year training and learning while holding down his full time job. After successfully convincing his employer to build a gym for employees, Sean gave notice and returned the next day as the gym’s fitness coach. Sixteen years later, he continues to hone his super power—helping people find lasting health, fitness and a love of the outdoors.
Sean’s gold-standard training at the Institute required that he learn the ins and outs of nutrition, weight training, hands-on coaching/mentorship, and business management. Graduating from this comprehensive program set him up to share his passion with others who need guidance in navigating a healthy lifestyle. As a former corporate employee of 12 years himself, he can empathize with his clients’ overwhelming workloads, long hours and challenges in finding time to focus on fitness. Sean continues to set high expectations of himself, constantly discovering and mastering new fitness techniques and regimens. He trains all levels of fitness through Colorado Personal Fitness.
When not at the gym, Sean, a Colorado fanatic, is likely to be on top of a mountain. Through his insatiable love of the outdoors, Sean discovered splitboarding (backcountry snowboarding), and quickly fell for this rugged and rewarding sport. He became such an avid fan that he wrote a book on it, and runs the country’s largest backcountry ski and snowboard Facebook page. He also started a non profit called the Beacon Bash, which hosts free events at local ski resorts like Winter Park, Loveland and Ski Santa Fe, and raises awareness on interpreting avalanche forecasts, and teaches valuable mountain safety skills.
Sean is also a gear-head, that is he’s obsessed with the products that make fitness and outdooring more successful. This passion for gear ultimately led to his online review business, Engearment, where he manages a team of 50 writers who produce written and video reviews of products from companies like North Face, Patagonia, Arcteryx and REI.
In his free time, Sean is a classical music connoisseur who plays Bach on his guitar (heavy metal versions), and is always up for a competitive game of Mexican Train (dominos). He and his wife, Samantha (and their dog Chloe), chose Painted Prairie because they were captivated by the incredible mountain views and the beautiful houses they toured. Meeting some of their future neighbors sealed the deal!
