Phyllis White knows a thing or two about turning lemons into lemonade. Painted Prairie resident since 2022, she is the grandmother of the “Three Lil’ Lemons” who you may have seen selling their thirst-quenching drinks at Painted Prairie events. What started as a fun activity with her three granddaughters, has blossomed into something unexpected.

Last year, Phyllis and her family hosted a front-yard lemonade stand during one of Painted Prairie’s community events. To their surprise, the stand was a big hit and they sold out. Soon, they found themselves a fixture at these events, with lemon-yellow t-shirts, a whimsical “store-front,” and more sell-outs at High Prairie Park. Their eventual investment in new equipment solidified their efforts—the girls had built a fully functional beverage business.

“My daughter, son-in-law and I hoped to teach my three granddaughters how to earn and manage their own money,” said Phyllis. “But I never expected it to grow into what it’s become!”

Phyllis attributes their success to the support of her Painted Prairie community. Not only have the girls witnessed neighbors fully embracing their efforts, but they’ve also taken note of customers “paying it forward” by treating others to a beverage. “The lessons my granddaughters have learned, not only in business, but in life, have been invaluable,” Phyllis remarked.

Phyllis and her husband are empty-nesters who bought their first home together at Painted Prairie. They were drawn to the parks and trails here, and they love their breathtaking front-porch views and the kindness of the community. ”It’s always been my passion to help people, and spread kindness and love wherever possible. Just like a lemonade stand brings people together, Painted Prairie has joined together this amazing community of people.”  Phyllis contemplated. Look for Phyllis and her crew during the 2025 summer event series. I guess you could say the Three Lil Lemons have “squeezed” the day!
